Understand SMILE before choosing vision correction
SMILE and LASIK are different procedures. Your examination, everyday visual needs and the doctor’s explanation should guide your choice.
01
A small incision, without a corneal flap
SMILE uses a femtosecond laser to create a lenticule inside the cornea, which is removed through a small incision to change the corneal shape. It corrects myopia and associated astigmatism. LASIK involves creating a corneal flap.
02
Suitability starts with an examination
Prescription strength is only one factor. Corneal shape and thickness, the ocular surface and overall eye health also matter. Having an examination does not guarantee you can proceed with surgery.
03
Consider recovery and risks
Dry eye, glare, fluctuating vision and other complications can occur. Recovery varies and glasses may still be needed. Discuss realistic expectations and alternatives before deciding.

Questions about laser eye surgery in Korea
Is KRW 2,400,000 for one eye or both?
It is the price for both eyes. It includes the pre-operative exam, autologous serum, anti-inflammatory and antibiotic eye drops, and free follow-up visits for 3 months after surgery. Confirm the scope of any additional charges before booking.
Is this SMILE or SMILE Pro?
This page describes SMILE with VISUMAX 500. Check the procedure and equipment in your booking documents and at your appointment.
How many days should I stay in Korea?
There is no single schedule for everyone. Confirm examination, surgery and required follow-up appointments first, then arrange your return based on the findings and medical advice.
Can I work, drive or travel immediately afterwards?
Ask separately about work, driving, exercise and flying. Each depends on your recovery and the doctor’s advice. Do not base a packed itinerary on someone else’s recovery time.
How do I arrange follow-up after returning home?
Confirm the review plan, medication instructions and contact details before leaving Korea. If another clinic will provide care, ask it about appointments, required records and charges. For sudden marked vision loss, severe pain or worsening symptoms, seek prompt local eye or emergency care rather than waiting for an online reply.
